Income Support
How much income support should a single parent with 2 children get. I was
given just £59 per week, less that £3 per day each. Surely this can't be
right. I am expected to live on less that £3 per day. My bloody council tax
is more than that. How on earth can a family of 3 be expected to live on
£3068 per year.

Hmmm...£59 sounds right for you.
For the kids, someone told me its child tax credit these days plus
child benefit.
Council tax you shouldn't be paying anyway - council tax benefit
should pay that. Apply for it if no application made yet.
Umm...whats this £3 per day less?

Income Support is only paid for adults - you have to get child tax
credits for what used to be the part of IS that was paid for children.
You also need to claim Council Tax Benefit.

IS is just the tip of the iceberg for single parents' benefits. IS is
now just for support of the adult(s).
You need to claim child tax credit (and child benefit) for the
children (you'll get about £110 a week in CTC plus child benefit).
You also should be able to get council tax benefit to pay your council
tax in full, unless your property is band F or above.
Plus housing benefit to pay your rent in full or ISMI to pay your
mortgage interest, subject to limits.

But HMRC wont pay any tax credits so how do I put a sufficiently large
rocket up their backsides to pay some credits. So what options are their for
help, bloody useless labour mp is no help. I don't think that you can appeal
non payment of tax credits so what options are open if they wont pay up.
They refused to consider my claim because get this, I don't have a child
benefit number, it is being transferred from the wife who left 4 weeks
before and I can't give them the name of my employer. That would be because
I am unemployed you useless dickheads.
So I don't get IS for the kids, I get tax credits, but I don't get tax
credits because I am unemployed. What has this f**king country come to.

Your problem lies with your ex-wife - you need to get child benefit for
the kids - you've been told that before. Until then she will get the
Child tax credits.
Why aren't you getting Child benefit? And can you answer without
biting... some of us are trying to help with our answers.
I can understand your frustration but you don't help yourself by biting
at anyone and everyone - the answer lies closer to home - your wife.

You have the wrong end of the stick. I got the child tax credits anyway but
HMRC closed to claim as soon as I became a single parent and now the new
claim has been stopped because I don't have a child benefit number, guess
who is sitting on that, you've guessed, HMRC and the fact that I am
unemployed.
Why am I not getting child benefit, well I am now just took HMRC 2 months to
extract their finger from their backside.
In the mean time I get no benefit but answer me this. How do Polish workers
get tax credits and asylem seekers get benefit and I can't.
There is still something odd here.
When I signed on the Job Centre asked if I had dependents and they pushed me
into the IS route rather than the JSA route but now I can't get benefit for
the kids and to boot I now have the f**ing CSA harassing me.
I am not biting at everyone but I don't see how the Government can escape
paying benefit because I am out of work or tax credits and it is all down to
my wife. Non of this is her fault, she just happened to walk out 3 weeks
before I became unemployed.
Do we now really live in a society where somebody can't get benefit for
children if they don't get child benefit. I come back to my question about
benfits for asylum seekers, how do they get beneifit for kids.
I am just trying to find out how much I am entitled to so that I can put in
the correct appeal.

Right, I'm going to say something to you that I've wanted to say for
ages then i will help you:
Every catastrophe that can befall man has happened to you. You were
caught up in the tsunami in 2004 - don't deny you said it, it's posted
on usenet - you lost papers that proved you had a property that was lost
because your papers were washed away. You growled about that for a few
weeks in early 2005. Then you had several tax credits that were right /
wrong / too large / too small / you had several more problems that
befelled you.
Now, let's consider that everything that can happen to a man has
happened to you, and you've taken most of them with a growl and an
insult thrown out here and there, now I'll answer your question.
But just before that, you still whinged, early 2006, you insulted the
Social Security people for various reasons that could keep me up all
night and make me miss the bus for work if I was to repeat them all.
But hey, welcome to the farm, you've learned that life can be shit!
So, now to answer:
Get your wife off child benefit and you'll get the problem sorted out.
The Child Reference Number is on the papers she has and you will get
when she has her benefit ceased. Until then, you can't do anything.

I want to apologise for the answer I sent earlier and which I've
snipped here - I was out of order and shouldn't have posted what I
did. It was unhelpful.

This bit is still correct though - you need to get your wife to stop
claiming child benefit. You'll have to keep chasing up the issue with
the child benefit centre but eventually they will stop her claim then
you'll get the child reference numbers you need.
Again, sorry for my earlier reply, it was out of order.
Good luck.
