Child Tax Credits & Single Parents
I was always under the impression that CTC was only available to
couples not single parents but that is wrong. Has that always been the
case?
I seem to recall that there was an anomily when it was set up that a
man and woman living together with two children where each child was
an off spring from one of the adults only that they couldn't claim or
claim for both but a homosexual couple in similar circumstances could.
Just wondering why my understanding was so wide of the mark. Have the
rules changed?

I don'y know why I was under the misapprehention that they were. I
only ask as I am about to become a single parent and I didn't think
that I could still claim but I understand that it becomes a new claim.

CTC is not payable because the claimant is a single parent. It is
payable dependent on the household income.

OK but since my wife didn't work the income remains the same so the
claim amount should be the same except that I can now claim for child
support.
