reducing hours... concequences?
Hi

I am considering reducing my hours at work to approx 20 hours a week.
My wife is now working and also runs a small company which I would
like to help develop for free. I do not wish to take any income from
her company whatsoever as she will simply bring it in to the house
anyway.

Will i run into any problems with CSA on this? Will they question why
i have reduced my hours?

I am on CS2

cheers

I would like to add that I also have a 1 year old child which needs
looking after.

Re: reducing hours... concequences?
Looking after your child is pretty irrelevant for CSA purposes other than
that you're reducing your hours to look after the child as your wife is
working. I take it you're employed?

Word of caution, make sure you let them know as you as you change your hours
or just decide to change your hours and get it noted. A change of
circumstances is effective from the date of notification, even if they have
to wait for the evidence.

hi

Yes I am employed. I am already working part time about 30 hours a
week.

I am trying to avoid being slapped for the same amount due to notional
payments. Not avoid paying it altogether. I need a career change but
dont want to change it if I am going to be paying the same amount.

thanks

Don't see a problem then. It's easily checked with your employer.

Hi Toffee

What would the consequeces be if I volunteered to reduce my hours? If
they ask my employer they will tell the CSA it was my idea to reduce
the hours.

thanks

Re: reducing hours... concequences?
I'd be surprised if they asked why, but if you have already informed them
why then all that will happen is that they've confirmed it. You have to
remember that the vast majority of civil servants at the bottom end of the
chain are working mums and a lot of them work part time. You are just doing
the same.

It's not the same as voluntarily giving up work completely, your calculation
is meant to reflect your circumstances and circumstances change. You just
happen to be working less to support your wife's new hours in a job that
earns more than yours.
