Efficiency question
Hi
Is it more energy efficient to boil a litre of water in an electric kettle,
the transfer to a pan on a gas hob, or to boil the water from ambient temp
using gas ?

Provided the question is; which is more 'efficient'.
Not a comparison of the 'cost' of electricity versus gas.
Would suggest that the electric kettle; one where the heating element
is fully immersed in the water is the more efficient because most of
the heat is directly available to heat the water.
On a gas hob some of the heat escapes around the bottom of the kettle
or the pan.
Also the composition of the gas into heat may not be 100%.
With all methods heat will escape from the kettle or pan etc. into the
surrounding air.
As another issue remember that any heat 'wasted' by any appliance will
during the winter assist warming the house! This includes cooking
ovens or hobs, fridges, light bulbs, TV sets etc. no matter how
'efficient'. In other words much of the energy used within a house
ends up as heat!
