waste disposal units
fitting a new kitchem to the bungalow, i'm putting in one of those round
sinks with a drainer attatches, like 2 circles but on a single piece, one of
these http://tinyurl.com/47o77o

i've always wanted a waste disposal unit on a sink to get rid of all the
food stuff that stinks the bin out,

do sinks have to be specificaly made for a waste disposal unit? or can you
get them to fit normal sinks,
only one i ever saw in action was in an americans home (on a usaf base in
england, they had 110 volts so all their american stuff worked and stuff
like that) but their sink was the size of a UK bath, and the plug hole was
about the size of a manhole due to the waste disposal unit fitted to the
other side (i was about 5 when i saw it, so everything seemed bigger then)

You need a sink with a "manhole" size hole, like this

cheers, found out that you can get standard sink waste fitting disposers,
but they are hard to find,

so ordered the version of the sink i want with the 90mm hole,

now to find a suitably cheap waste disposal unit, were loads on fleabay the
other month for about £25, now they are all 60 quid plus, dont want to spend
too much as i just know i'll break it by seeing just what it can dispose of.

They are extremely good. Extremely noisy. And the cheaper single
direction ones jam occasionally so get one that reverses.

Make sure you have room under the sink for it and it's plumbing.

Why not, depending on circumstances, put it in a compost bin,
wormery or Green Cone?

Your sink needs to have a 90mm outlet.
I have seen a "drilling kit" (can't recall where though!) that you can
get to mod a sink with a smaller waste outlet.

Not sure if an adaptor is available to allow use with smaller outlets
- but I wouldn't want to - it would be too small to be of much use..

I have the in-sink-erator 45 from B&Q - used it every day for a year
now and it hasn't jammed once - touch wood!
Be sure to get one with an air-operated switch.

Mark.

because it's my food i buy with my money, and if i want to waste it i will
:)

i dont have anything in the garden that could possibly use any compost, at
the moment it's a scrap yard, but one day it will have turf on every inch
except the patio, if astroturf wasnt so expensive i'd put that down and save
me the hassle of cutting the lawn, i dont do flowers so wont be growing any,
i'm perfectly happy for the very few veggies i eat to come from a
supermarket, and i dont really give a hoot where they come from of how many
pennies the poor farmer gets to grow them.

so all i'd produce compost for is to chuck in the normal rubbish bin when
the compost bin is full, but why should i do that, the damn council charges
us to collect it (council tax etc) and then sells it on,

sorry but i dont go for this green stuff much, i have solar panels on my
motorhome only because it allows me to stay places where electric hook ups
arent available, not because of any enviromental thing at all, they give me
free electricity that's all i got them for, i had some spare cash when i
bought them, so i dont care about payback times, they have already paid me
back by allowing me to park up where i want in europe for free, and not
having to worry about power.

we don't have kids, and are never having any, so i aint gonna save the
planet for other peoples kids, we've done our bit by not adding to the
overcrowding that's the real problem with this world.

selfish, you bet, but why the hell not, what exactly do you get by worrying
about what other people do with their lives, a load of hassle, stress and
missing out on your own life,

i want to live my life how i choose, not how i'm told by what ever fassion
is in at the moment.

so i'm getting a waste disposal unit, and i'm gonna use it till it dies from
over use :)

actually i did think about putting in a storage tank that collects the rain
water from the roof, and a pump, filter and seperate tap at the sink to use
just with the waste disposal unit, could plumb it in to feed the bog too,
prolly even the washing machine,

but i can't be arsed now, i've just had a water meter fitted, but i can ask
them to go back to the rates based unlimited water charging thing, so might
do that and leave the taps running all night just for the sake of it.

and fer fecks sake dont mention my carbon footprint, or i'll buy a few old
oil engines and run them up every day for a few hours for amusment :)
