That's very good. What is the cheapest you have seen the GBG for for
CAMRA members?

The CAMRA members price is £10 + £2.50 p&p whereas the Amazon price is
"free postage". As there is no such thing as free postage the Amazon
price to non-members for the book is possibly closer to £6.

BUt CAMRA do not make any profit on these - and they really need it
atm!
GBG is the biggest money maker they have.

If there is no profit in supplying the book to Amazon then there is
absolutely no point in doing so. Every copy sold through Amazon is one
less copy that could have been sold at a higher price by CAMRA. If no
profit is being made from the Amazon sale then the price charged by
CAMRA for each book it sells needs to be higher to maintain overall
margin. CAMRA ultimately set the pricing policy at Amazon by supplying
them in the first place.
Even if a larger print run resulted in cheaper books (per unit) it would
still make no sense to dump them into the market if zero profit is being
made.
I suspect there is insufficient demand for the guides at the listed
price plus £2.50 p&p, or even with a couple of quid knocked off the
cover price, that is being charged by the parent organisation.
Even some of the traditional outlets may be less than profitable these
days. Listening to a radio programme recently it appears that to sell
via the well known High Street distributors not only has the publisher
got to heavily discount the cover price but they have to pay for the
shelf space if they want the book anywhere on view that encourages an
impulse purchase, or even a considered purchase
CAMRA still maintain a silly price differential between members and
non-members whereas in reality the Amazon deal under cuts even the
cheapest "double special" ( order in advance and pay by direct debit)
member pricing. CAMRA web price for non-members £17.49, current Amazon
price £7.99 (both incl postage)

Mine arrived this morning ! Not had one for a couple of years and so
was surprised that this one seems like a monster tome - 888 pages ! I
don't remember it being that size before.
