Nottingham Pub Suggestions
I'm off to Nottingham next month for a couple of days as a stop over on
route to the GBBF and would like some suggestions for good pubs with large
choices of real ale. I tend to prefer light hoppy beers as apposed to malty.
Any good crawls would be welcome.

Thanks,

Clint

This may help

http://www.nottinghamcamra.org/Crawls.htm

and I suggest the Vat and Fiddle if you like hoppy ones. The Castle Rock
Harvest Pale there is excellent and it is also readily available elsewhere
in the city.

Trip to Jerusalem is a must though the beer isn't always that good. The
experience of drinking in a cave is quite unusual.

The Trip is worth it for its historical reputation, but for decent Real Ale
I'd recommend the Salutation on Maid Marian Way and The Bell on the Market
Square. (This used to have live music on Sunday lunchtimes, many happy
memories of a good few good ales to accompany it!!)

Enjoy yourself, Nottingham is still blessed with a good selection of Ales

If Caves are your thing ask to see the ones under the Salutation ... no
actual bar down there though <g> !

Re: Nottingham Pub Suggestions
Through a haze I seem to remember that the Lincolnshire Poacher was pretty
good as well,

Is it still ok?

I'd had a few by the time I got up there last time I visited it.

I haven't been in for a while, but a friend in Nottingham says it's okay...
in his words... most of the time. (?)

The Bell and the surrounding area can get a bit bositerous on fri and
sat nights as I recall.

In addition to the suggestions made, there is a very cheap brew-pub
called Fellows
Morton and Clayton near the station and canal. Just down the road
is the Canal House which has guest ales and a narrowboat in the bar.

The Victoria in Beeston is worth a trip , easily reached by public
transport.

Fellows Morton and Clayton has not brewed for several years, however
you can usually get a Mallard beer in there and one from Nottingham
Brewery. The Canalhouse is next door and it is also close to the
Newshouse and Vat and Fiddle. Incidentally Ye olde trip is a GK pub,
also nearby (if you must).

if you like light hoppy beers then the King Billy (King William IV) is
the pub for you. It is on Manvers street close to the National Ice
Arena. It has seven handpumps and serves almost exclusively light
hoppy beers, two of which are from Oakham and beers from Newby Wyke
and Abbeydale are often available alongside several others.

The Trip isn't restricted to GK beers though. On my last visit they
had Rock Mild in good nick.

IMI the 'Trip' is worth a visit for the experience alone
(do NOT accept any offers to dust the Galleon <g>) the
'Salutation' nearby is worth a visit (ask about the caves
underneath) and the ?'Royal Children'? around the corner
is a Pub with an interesting history, if not necessarily
for the beer ... not very far away the 'Bell' is worth
a look in ...
