Campaign For Real Lager - late April Fool's?
Following on from the "is it / isn't it?" news below about National
Lager Week (spoof?) & Freedom Brewery's attempts to promote the best
of craft-brewed British lager (non-spoof), I happened upon The
Campaign For Real Lager's website - http://www.camrl.org.uk & I just
can't work out if it's funny & super-satirical or just plain
laughable.
Some quotes -
"Even a casual glance around the web will show that the world is
unanimous in its love for Carling lager - there is little doubt in the
minds of most, that one Lager brand stands head and shoulders above
the rest."
- er, I have a little doubt.
"Great Lagers of the World: <U.S.> Budweiser - The ultimate bottled
beer - Bud is a real "in your face" lager ..."
- er, no.
"Carlsberg - Let a less knowledgable drinker near it and without fail
they will ask "Is that one of those Belgian beers?"."
- er, no again.
But I read on, only to wonder if this was big lager-brewing marketing,
but filtered through the prism of arch-satirist Chris Morris . . .
On Budweiser again . . .
"It is difficult to drink and feel British at the same time, but that
should not be to its detriment. Sublte blends of hops and yeast,
interspersed gracefully with gentle hints of Betaglucanase, Ammonia
caramel, Rhoiso-alpha acids, Amyloglucosidase and Propylene glycol
alginate, make for a delightfully refreshing and natural tasting
lager."
Seems an odd description of the ingredients of a "delightfully
refreshing and natural tasting lager."
I'm confused & bemused
cheers
