Yorks Pubs Suggestions Please??
In less than a month we will be in Holmfirth, then
Haworth, then Hawes-Gale. Will have transport.
Looking for pub suggestions in those areas. We
will stop in Tan Hill of course. Prefer real
ales on the pump, and good evening meals.
thanks

You probably already know of The Nook in Holmfirth,
but have you tried The Fleece up the valley in Holme??
Just outside of Haworth is The Olde Silent. Good beers
and good food. We prefer the pub side to the more
posh restaurant side.

Thank you for that info. We will check them out (if
we can find them). I am a bit surprised that nobody
else has offered any assistance at all. Why is that??
Have I offended???

I'd love to help but it's been 10 years since I was up there and things may
well have changed a lot!

I'm sure you have not caused offence.
The Good Beer Guide points the way to the best ones, of course. I assume you
have a copy?
In Huddersfield, a real ale mecca near to Holmfirth, the local branch have
no guide on the web, but http://www.aswiftone.blogspot.com/ offers some good
information.

Re: Yorks Pubs Suggestions Please??
Hi
Haworth - best pubs are The Fleece and Old Hall, the other pubs also
have Cask beers and don't forget the Keighley Worth Valley Railway
Buffet car depending on when you are visiting.

Thanks Lynda. I have been to The Fleece, but have no idea
where is Old Hall. Can you help?? Also wondering
whether The Nook ever started up their brewery??

From outside Haworth Station, go south along B6142 Station Road, and
follow it round the corner (where it becomes Bridgehouse Lane) to the
right and up the hill, where you'll find the pub in Sun Street, just to
the left at the next corner, where the B6142 bends right again.
You can also walk up there through the ornamental gardens which lie
between Haworth Station and the pub. If you put "Haworth Old Hall Inn"
into Google Maps, the pub comes up in the satellite view under blue tag
D.
I haven't been in there for a couple of years now, but last time I was
in there the beer and food were both good.

Ah, so the Old Hall is the pub at the bottom of the main street
with tables (and tourists) out front?? I've stopped in
before and been a little let down by what was on offer at the
time, but that was 3 years ago. The Fleece always seems to
have some good Landlord and RamTam on. In fact, The Fleece
used to (!!) always have a 99p pint on from Tim Taylor.

Pretty close to there, yes.

ISTR there were tables outside, but I'm normally there at Easter (though
not this year, due to lack of income) so I tend to stay inside, in the
warm...

Perhaps they were having an off day; mine was fine in 2007.

Sounds good to me. I'll have to remember to try the Fleece next time I
find myself in Haworth. I love old/dark ales, winter warmers and milds,
so a drop of Ram Tam would go down very well with me.

Just had a look and sure enough Amazon in the US only has the 2008 version,
but there are several sellers on ebay who will ship to the US - I see one
for about $16.84 plus about $12 for shipping - item number 280328435146.
I think it could be worth it so you can plan ahead and pick the style of pub
that you want to visit.
Cheers,
Paul
