I can't get crumpets or muffins here. I make my own bread rolls when
friends come to dinner, I love a bread roll served warm,
unfortunately, I can eat too many of them! Now behave and watch those
statins, any side effects?

I thought I had some aches and pains when I started on them but my GP
persuaded me to continue. Though I have no problems there now, I am *always*
very, very tired. The medics put it down to my diabetes. I don't know.

One thing I *do* know and I am going to raise it again at my next 6 month
review in December:

I know people who have had dreadful side effects from statins, so much
so that I resist any attempt from our doc to put my better half on them!!

I have to admit that I have been influenced by adverse reports on
statins; I hear, repeatedly, that people are lacking of energy whilst
taking them, that worries me as I can flag quite easily early evening
as it is.

Most people taking them are old and aging. Because of a genetic problem, I
have been taking them for years, ever since the oat bran and niacin thing
turned out to be a stupid joke. I have also had periods off statins. It
isn't the statins. It's just nature. Sure, you see energetic types who are
still doing 10 things at once at 80 years old, but if you knew them then,
they were doing 15 things at once at 45.

I have a friend who is a cardiologist who says the future is old people all
taking statins that are designed to measure because they do so many good
things for you. At present you just have to have your liver tested
periodically and keep exercising. Doesn't seem too stiff to me.

I'm relieved to hear of your experiences. I worked in a hospital for
28 years and I heard mixed reviews, it's good to hear of a positive
one.

There are a plethora of statins and dosages. The Maternal Unit takes
generic simvastatin at 20 mgs. She was prescribed more initially but cut
the tabs in half after doing some homework. Her numbers came up fine at
the half dose, so her GP switched her to the lower dose (copay is the
same anyway).
