Tonight's dinner question
I plan on having Jamaican jerk chicken with sweet potato mash but I
can't decide which vegetables to have, or that would go, with it.
What would you guys suggest?

If you're already doing a sweet potato mash, why not use a green veggie?
I'd think beans?

I was thinking maybe green beans? What's a traditional Jamaican
vegetable?

How about a slaw with jicama and apples?
Beth
(BTW made this last night, but made sweet potato pancakes with grated sweet
potatoes, jerk chicken thighs, dressed with some chutney, sour cream, and a
little cilantro...yum!)

OK. Being something of a newbie to cooking, just what is a chicken jerk
and what makes it a jerk?

"Jerk" is a type of spicy Jamaican seasoning that can be used with many
meats, not just chicken.
Here's a recipe for it that sort of explains it's contents, if that'd be
helpful?
Jerk seasoning
Ingredients
1 bunch fresh thyme, leaves only
2 cinnamon sticks, roughly crushed
2 tbsp chopped fresh coriander
1 tsp coriander seeds, crushed
2 tbsp black peppercorns, crushed
1 tsp freshly grated nutmeg
3 tsp allspice, crushed
6 garlic cloves
4 Scotch Bonnet chillies, seeds removed
2 tsp chopped fresh ginger
2 limes, zest of 1 lime, juice of 2
140ml/ΒΌ pint olive oil
Method
1. Place all of the ingredients in a blender or food processor and blend
to make a smooth paste.
2. Use the paste as a seasoning for chicken, pork or fish. It will keep
for two weeks if covered and refrigerated.

Callaloo and other similar leafy greens; easily available in most UK
cities (London at least LOL). Peas and rice. Ackee. Plantains. Festival.

I'd have sauteed greens with that.
