Blueberries
I've just frozen ~50lbs of BC blueberries for my d-i-l and me. I bought
them in bulk lots at the farmers' market, where I buy them every year, and
negotiated a discount. Just been to the local supermarket and they have
them for about a penny a pound cheaper than I paid and I wouldn't have had
to waste all that petrol.
Oh well!

Actually, the producer's name was on the SM one and they were fresh and
quite good. In fact, there were fewer green ones and stalks in these than
the bulk ones.

I put 'em on my brekkie cereal every morning. D-I-L makes smoothies and
also lets the gc eat them as a frozen treat. My 30lbs will last me until
the next blueberry season.
BTW, the supermarket put them on special later:-(

Last weekend a friend stripped the blackcurrants from a bush in his
garden. We bought some bramley apples at the local supermarket and he
created a wonderful big blackcurrant and apple crumble that provided
eight large helpings. It was the most delicious crumble I'd had in years
- the flavour was incredible, and the tart edge was smoothed with
dollops of fresh cream.

About a pound of berries were left over so he froze these, with the
intention of using them another time for a sauce or another crumble.

I don't know if blueberries would work this way.

Yes but their flavour is mild and sweet compared to blackcurrants. They are
a very healthy food, apparently, loaded with cyanins etc.
BTW, I will be digging up my blackcurrant bush this w/e (Monday's a public
holiday). It flowers but never fruits. I've threatened it as Basil Fawlty
would, but to no avail.

There's a classic French recipe called "Confiture de Vieux Garçon": varied
fresh fruits macerated in alcohol. I have a recipe in English somewhere but
couldn't find it. Most of the Google results are in French, except for the
first one. Basically, you put fruit in a jar and cover with alcohol, adding
other fruit as they come into season.

It works with most soft fruits. Dpending on the fruit and your own taste
you can add spices, or other stuff (vodka & orange & coffeebeans, for
example).

This is strictly experimental, but I am working with wild plums today.
There are three kinds. I pitted them and found some had residents so that
was the right choice. Tossed into a big sealable jar, I barely covered them
with leftover 95% pure alcohol and plain grappa. I made a syrup of 50% each
water and sugar with cloves, cinnamon and nutmeg and boiled it to a softball
stage, then poured it over the fruit and booze. I phtographed it just done
to have a record as it ages. Can post a link if you like.

Have no idea, but thought it might make imaginative trifles, fruit compotes,
upside down cakes...

I have no answers because this is the beginning. I may add more fruit(s) or
not. What I see so far is the fruit shrinking and the liquid expanding...
who knows what will happen. I've been told it probably needs until
December.
