Ping type foods. Can be warmed up again.
Cooking for the two os on a Thursday is becoming a nightmare. Wife goes
out to do Beaver Scouts at 5-00pm and doesn't come back until about
9-00pm. Five o'clock is too early for me and sometime 9 o'clock is too
late, So I tend to do something that can be re warmed, like corned beef
hash. Right cow I have a bacon hot pot cooking.
Can anyone suggest a ping food meal that I can prepare in advance. Wife
is very conservative in her tastes though.

Cottage pie. You can do it in advance in two small china dishes and
microwave one of them for your wife.

Chilli con carne + rice.
Any curry of your choice.
Try a "tartiflette" - sort of cheesy/creamy potato+bacon casserole.
"Baked" potatoes - do from scratch in the MW.
Hungarian or Austrian Goulash.
Vegetable strudel (like apple strudel, but with mixed veggies instead),
with potatoes/rice or whatever.
Bubble and squeek. Or what Austrians call a "Gröstl" fried potatoes and
bits of meat(optional) and beans with a few herbs. Pings really well.

No, but I have been giving one a bit of a green eye lately. Might be a
way forward.

That and shepherds pie is something that I have done in the past. Make
one big enough for the two of us and warm mine up before wife gets home.
By the way, I call my wife, the wife because I have stopped calling her
by the pet name of 'the dragon' which I used for many years.

I'm not even going to react. My husband calls me 'the wife' when he's
already broken into a brisk trot down the path to the nursery!

Neither of us like curry or spicy foods. Like I said she is very
conservative.

Now that sounds very interesting :-)
I could make that up as I went along.

That is my wife's speciality. Bake/nuke the spuds in the microwave and
scoop out the inside and mix it with cheese and sweet corn. Scrummy.

Not sure if she likes that, but I will give it a go. Stroganoff might be
another alternative as well.

I'll sit and think about that, as we have very different likes and
dislikes about veg.

She has had a hard time with her hormones and lost he ovaries in her
late thirties to early forties.

I wish that I could break into a brisk trot. Since I had that throat
infection I feel like an eighty year old. I'm getting there though.

want.
Stroganoff would be good I reckon.

Jersey people sometimes use "my girl" and if you're saying something they

I always prefer She Who Thinks She Must Be Obeyed ;-)
I often wonder why they can't repeat those old progs, BBC 3 & 4 have not
got that much to show. I remember a few weeks ago, they repeated The
Onedin Line, the first episode, now that is something that I could watch

OK Here starts a flame war :-)
How can SHMBO say that she must be obeyed?
Didn't she swear an oath to honour and obey in a civil and church ceremony?

Well, we married in Holland, according to Dutch civil law. And those Dutch
women libbers managed to get the whole honour-and-obey thing banned.
And unfortunately (for once!), not being religious, there wasn't a church
ceremony.

Well, I suppose we men have to take the very rough with the smooth :-(
I took a look at what porter cake was and I was surprised (very) to see
the writer of the recipe was advocating using Guinness or Murphy's to
make it. Doesn't that defeat the object of the exercise to make a good
tasting cake?
Though I do not like to drink porter, I can understand how it would
match the recipe though.

ps to another post
Not tried tried the fruit cake and cheese yet. Might be Monday or even
Tuesday before I can get some cake.

At least through the summer I would go for foods served cold or room
temperature. In most cuisines there are loads of foods like that to choose
from. Fried chicken, potato salad, pasta salad, veal tonnato, chicken, tuna
or egg salad, Meal salads using clever ingredients of the season... really
one could go on for months.
Come cold weather, soups and stews are nicer, but then you'd want them.

So that would be now. Our summer is *appalling*! Yesterday we had driving
rain and gales and the temp was 57 at its highest.
