chicken tikka masala
I live in the U.S. (Northwestern Indiana, to be exact). I love tikka
masala that I get in restaurants, but can't afford to go to them as much as
I like. The nearest one in 45 minutes away, besides. I have tried a
variety of recipes, but without a lot of success. Does anyone have a good
recipe for me to attempt?

Thanks
Tom

Re: chicken tikka masala
Hi,

Speaking as someone who's cooked Indian food for the last 30 years I found
the cr0.co.uk site a bit confusing, and has an emphasis on British Indian
food (fyi the UK's favourite food is Indian!).

This site is very good:-

http://www.indianfoodforever.com/

BTW in India no-one has heard of Chicken Tikka Masala, or Bombay Potato,
purely a British invention!

Regards,

Re: chicken tikka masala
Forgot to mention, as Chicken Tikka Massala is a "contrived / invented"
restaurant dish, here in the UK our supermarkets are full of Indian cook in
sources. Not that I would use any of them as a matter of preference.
However! The Tikka Masala sauces available are pretty much the same as you
would get in a restaurant (though as explained, not in New Delhi). You could
pretty much replicate the restaurant dish using marinated chicken, i.e.
chicken tikka (which you can get in New Delhi) and mixing it with the
source, should be an acceptable result, if not better than your NW Indiana
Restaurant.

Regards,

Charles

Re: chicken tikka masala
Forgot to mention again, getting late, too much cider, can you get "Indian"
sources in the supermarkets over there?

Erm...

Yes they have.

But neither tastes like the dishes served in the UK.

There's a lot of movement between the UK and India, especially chefs who
usually go to the UK on a five year visa.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe.
Barbeques on fire by the chalets past the castle headland
I watched the gift shops glitter in the darkness off the Newborough gate
All these moments will be lost in time, like icecream on the beach
Time for tea.

Butter Chicken is certainly better but pretty close to Chicken
Tikka Masala. Both them have a ghee content that I will not
mention!

Yes, it was 10 years ago since I was in India.

Tom
Try out the following link for Chicken Tikka Masala. If you have any
problems, you can post it in this thread and I will try to see if I
can be of further help.

I am the owner of IndiaCurry.com. I designed it for Indians living in
North America, or North Americans interested in Indian foods. You may
find other recipes of interest as well.
