On the subject of mixer/grinders...
So, back at the end of July, I posted that I'd ordered one of the
Sumeet "Asia Kitchen Machine" mixer/grinders from their North American
"distributor" at sumeet.net. Well, it hasn't arrived yet, and things
are not looking good. I was promised delivery by the end of September,
then the beginning of October, and now the company isn't replying to
e-mail and their phone is often forwarded to a voice mail system that's
full (of complaints, no doubt). I checked around, and pretty much
every online place that sells Sumeet products doesn't have any in
stock, so it must be some sort of supply issue. They're certainly not
dealing with it very well, but at least they haven't charged my credit
card.
Anyway, I've been looking around, and there are certainly lots of other
options for mixies, but I can't find one that is a direct replacement
for the Asia Kitchen Machine (every time I say that name I feel like
giggling!). What I am mainly interested in is the ability to grind
small quantities of spices better than the crappy blade coffee grinder
I have for doing it right now, as well as varying quantities of wet
pastes. I often make recipes that call for grinding small to medium
quantities of pastes or sauces, and food processors and blenders are
not usually much good unless you put a decent quantity of stuff in
them. I really like the way the Sumeet attachments have stirrers to
scrape the food off the sides as it's ground, as well as an attachment
for grinding small quantities.
The closest product to the Asia Kitchen Machine I've been able to find
is the "Relin Megamix" here: http://www.relin.com/item1.htm I've also
looked at Butterfly, Premier, Preethi, and Rico models, but most of
them seem to lack the small grinding attachment or the side scraping
stirrer. Unfortunately, I can't find anything about the Relin model
other than their own advertising, even on Usenet. It looks pretty
good, and they claim it's popular in India, but they could be making it
up for all I know :) They seem to making an effort to get into the
Canadian market, with CSA approval.
Since it doesn't look like I will ever be getting the Sumeet model,
does anyone have any thoughts on the Relin and other alternatives?
Anywhere else I could try posting for more info?
