Taliban underboss Sher Muhammad Qasab captured
AFP:

PESHAWAR: Pakistan said soldiers Wednesday arrested a third man from a list
of most-wanted Taliban commanders in the Swat valley that offered hundreds
of thousands of dollars in reward money.

Sher Muhammad Qasab was the alleged local Taliban commander in Charbagh, in
the heart of the former tourist region where the military launched a major
assault this summer to defeat a deadly two-year Islamist insurgency.

Qasab, who with 15 other Taliban commanders in the northwest district had a
price on his head of 10 million rupees (around 120,000 dollars), was
'seriously injured' and 'arrested in a military operation,' the army said in
a statement.

Military officials in the northwest city of Peshawar confirmed his arrest.

'Troops encircled him from days. His three sons were also killed on Monday
during the operation,' a military official told AFP.

Last Friday, Pakistan announced the arrest of the Taliban spokesman in Swat,
Muslim Khan, and another commander from the list of 16 most-wanted people
headed by the architect of the Swat uprising, Maulana Fazlullah.

The mountain valley slipped out of government control after radical cleric
Fazlullah rose up in July 2007, commanding thousands of followers who
beheaded opponents, burnt schools and fought to enforce Islamic law.

Pakistan launched a blistering offensive against the Taliban after militants
marched out of Swat and advanced to within 100 kilometres (60 miles) of the
capital Islamabad in April. The military now says the area is clear.
=======
Written threats, some of them hand-written, have been showing up along the
Swat highway east of Mardan and west of the Swat valley proper. That makes
some people wonder if some of Fazlullah's people have retreated to the more
rocky terrain north of that highway. It will be hard to find food there, but
ammo caches may exist. The mountains further north are a possible hiding
place of UBL. I think if he were ever in Waziristan, some stories about him
would have trickled out of there, long before now.

Re: Taliban underboss Sher Muhammad Qasab captured
From Daily Times (Pakistan):

Most wanted Taliban member arrested in Swat

MINGORA: The security forces on Wednesday captured a top Taliban commander
in the ongoing operation against the Swat Taliban, who was wanted for
slaughtering security personnel, the military said.“Wanted terrorist
commander Sher Muhammad Qasab, whose duty was to behead security personnel
and anti-Taliban civilians and carried a head money of Rs 10 million, was
arrested during an operation. Qasab was captured injured,” the military said
in a statement. Qasab’s arrest follows earlier arrests of Muslim Khan and
Mehmood Khan, two of his associates and close aides of Swat Taliban chief
Maulana Fazlullah. The Taliban leader was arrested from Chaharbagh, security
officials said, adding that three of Qasab’s sons were also killed during
the search operation. An army official told AFP that Qasab “was running a
slaughter centre at Chaharbagh where he himself used to slaughter opponents
and security personnel”. ghulam farooq/afp
