Dubious report that Fazlullah wants to surrender
http://www.dailytimes.com.pk/default.asp?page=2009\09\13\story_13-9-2009_pg7_10

Fazlullah decides to surrender?

LAHORE: Tehreek-e-Taliban Swat chief Mullah Fazlullah has decided to
surrender, a private TV channel quoted its sources as saying on Saturday.
According to the channel, he had been wounded and was in hiding in a cave.
The law enforcement agencies had cordoned off the area of his hideout, the
channel added. Security forces had been told to complete the operation in
Swat before Eid, the channel concluded. daily times monitor

The source could be a sympathizer, who expects Fazlullah to be dead soon (as
I do) and who will then claim that Fazlullah offered to surrender but was
killed anyway.
Fazlullah has broadcast countless death warrants against Pakistanis in NWFP,
on his now dead FM radio antenna. Zawahiri constantly does the same via the
internet, but I think Zawahiri would prefer to be taken alive. He will
betray others to save his own skin. He has done so before, according to "Dr.
Fadl" anyway. And a suspiciously large number of Zawahiri's former buddies
have died while Zawahiri himself lives on. But he's running out of buddies,
and he knows it.

Some reports say that he has allowed himself to be taken alive. If true,
that's even better news than what I expected, which was his death, for it
demonstrates that he regards "martyrdom" as great for other Muslims but not
for himself.

Re: Dubious report that Fazlullah wants to surrender
The News (of Pakistan):

ISLAMABAD: Highly informed sources told The News that the dragnet around
Maulana Fazlullah and his band of close associates has really been tightened
and his arrest, or elimination, at the hands of security forces could happen
within the next 24 hours.

According to a source, captured Taliban leader Muslim Khan is singing like a
canary and has reportedly pinpointed a couple of most secret hiding dens of
his commander. The source also indicated that the ‘arrest’ of Muslim Khan
may well be a negotiated surrender with security forces giving it the cover
of being an arrest to retain Muslim Khan?s credibility and protect his near
and dear ones from Fazlullah?s deadly reprisal against any perceived act of
betrayal.

According to another highly reliable source, Muslim Khan, had been of late
trying to broker a deal through certain elements whereby his life would be
spared in lieu of his spilling beans leading to the arrest or killing of
Fazlullah and some of his other top commanders.

APP adds: eight militants, including three Afghans, were killed and nine
others sustained injuries, while a security personnel embraced Shahadat in
the ongoing operation Rah-e-Rast, said a media update of the Inter-Services
Public Relations (ISPR).

Five terrorists were killed and nine others apprehended in a search
operation in Smater area near Banjot. A soldier also embraced Shahadat,
while another sustained injuries in an exchange of fire with the militants
in the area, the ISPR said.

During a search operation in Chinar area, security forces killed three
Afghan terrorists, it added. Two terrorists were apprehended in Bandai
village near Khwazakhela and two others voluntarily surrendered in Barshaur
and Uzbak Banda.

During search operations in Qambar, Kuza Bandai and Nao, seven suspects were
apprehended and 10 others voluntarily surrendered to security forces in Kala
Killay and Gul Jabba near Kabal.

--------

I hope it's all true. It spells not just total destruction of the Swat
Taliban, but total disgrace and discredit as well.

I recall a British Home Secretary or similar of the time trumpeting much
the same about having have whupped the IRA ... just days before Canary
Wharf was attacked.

The gravestones you are perhaps hastily erecting may well have the
inscription, "The reports of my death are greatly exaggerated".
