Pakistani Taliban seems to be disowning al-Qa'ida

LAHORE: Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan Bajaur Agency chief Maulvi Faqir has said
Al Qaeda and the Afghan Taliban had no role in the appointment of new TTP
chief, a private TV channel reported on Monday. He said the TTP council had
independently chosen and appointed Hakimullah Mehsud as Baitullah's
successor. Faqir said the TTP was an independent organisation and Al Qaeda
or the Afghan Taliban had no say in its operations.
=====
Islamabad is also saying that al-Qa'ida has failed to reunify the Pakistani
Taliban since Baitullah was killed on 5 August by our friends in Langley.
The surviving Arabs and Russians and Uzbeks in Pakistan -- fugitives from
defeated jihads abroad -- must feel the nooses tightening around their
throats. I expect there will be more drone strikes against that lot, on
information fed to Islamabad by local barbarians like Maulvi Faqir. In
Zawahiri's last piece, "Path of Doom", he mentions the rain of drone strikes
and its demoralizing effect on the "muhajroon" (literally "migrants", but he
is referring to fugitives like himself) and on those who shelter them. His
fear of betrayal by those around him is also quite apparent:
"O Allah, annihilate the organs of Crusader security and their aides who
pursue the Muslims and Mujahideen, reveal their whereabouts, torture them
and hand them over to their enemies. ... O Allah, annihilate those 'Ulema
who have sold their religion to the Americans and their agents for the
crumbs of this world."
Dozens of times I have heard Zawahiri say that these "mujahideen" are
invincible. Now he says that others "pursue" them and "reveal their
whereabouts". Good news, good news.
