Olmert indicted
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,544417,00.html
<quotes>
Former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert was indicted on corruption charges Sunday,
becoming the first Israeli premier to go on trial and highlighting a series
of cases that have shaken the public's faith in the political system.
Olmert's former finance minister was sentenced to five years for
embezzlement in June, and another member of his Cabinet was sentenced to
four years for taking bribes. Israel's former ceremonial president, Moshe
Katsav, is being tried on rape and sexual harassment charges, and a longtime
Olmert aide has been charged with illegal wiretapping, fraud and breach of
trust.

No comment included in that article indicating how neighbours of Israel
perceived Olmert's regime; considered a 'beacon of democracy', a 'guiding
light which others in the Midle East should follow' by some; and seemingly
receiving full US government suppport and backing.

It's also par for the course, in that under certain legal systems gangsters
like Olmert and Al Capone are never brought to justice over their
responsibility for homicide, but over things like bribery and tax evasion.
Which simply illustrates how those legal systems are administered primarily
for the benefit of the rich and well-off, such that property is more
important than human life.
