Oh as far as WWII goes they already made up most of the British Army
in WWI and it wasn't for the money but they were still used as cannon
fodder. The Unionists believed they were fighting for Queen and
country and the Nationalists to gain favour with the British
government at the time to give them independence, money didn't come
into it.

The ones making the money weren't on the battlefield.
