"Dissident threat" to SF members
Sinn Fein has said five party councillors have been warned by the police that
their lives are under threat from dissident republicans.

The party's Alex Maskey said the councillors, one from Glengormley and four from
north Belfast, were visited by police on Sunday night.

Mr Maskey described the threats as "totally unacceptable".

A police spokesperson said they do not discuss the personal security of any
individual.

"Where we believe that someone needs to review their personal security, we take
steps to inform them.

"We never ignore anything that could put someone at risk," she said.

Mr Maskey said the threats would not deter the councillors from doing their
work.

"It is totally unacceptable that anyone purporting to be republican should
threaten other republicans who have a different perspective on the way forward,"
he said.

"I would encourage those republicans referred to as dissidents to get behind the
process and help to advance our republican objectives in a democratic and
peaceful manner."

He also said the police should have given more details about the threats so that
their veracity could be established.

These dissidents are just the scum that is left when those who actually care
about the future of Ireland move forward... Neither patriot nor nationalist,
but one out to exploit the turmoil for their own personal gain... Scumbags...

Has this not happened before?

Does every resolution of human conflict not leave behind old soldiers who
cannot change and the newest recruits still eager for "action" and what
thye see as their "place in history"?

This cannot have been unforeseen by Gerry and the bois, can it?

Were they so drunk on the peace process they forgeot that amongst the
"real" patriots in their organization there were some whose lives would
have ended up in petty criminality anyway? These would never change into
law-abiding citizens?

I am astonished at this gaping hole in masterplanning.

I am shocked, the IRA will be accused of beating people to death next.
They gave my 'tree' also known as 'Downfine Forest' three days to leave
the country.

I am stonished at this gaping hole in environmental planning.

I complained, I think that is the correct word, either that or begged,
to 'the leader' on my way to work and he helpfully told me to "stop
whining or I will have you shot".

What is an green campaigner to do?
