Leif Eriksson wished to promote Greenland as a place for settlers to
go to...Iceland had already been settled by Norsemen and he wanted to
give Greenland a more appealing name than 'Iceland'...

Wiki says: "Data obtained from ice cores indicate that between AD 800 and
1300 the regions around the fjords of the southern part of the island
experienced a relatively mild climate similar to today. Trees and herbaceous
plants grew in the south of the island and the prevailing climate initially
permitted farming of domestic livestock species as farmed in Norway."

Maybe so but there was a very good reason why the settlers from
Scandinavia ended up dying out and it was entirely due to the fact
that the lifestyle they left behind in Scandinavia was simply not
replicable in Greenland due to the climate.
I'm still completely correct no matter how hard you try to spin it
Falcon...read and weep:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saga_of_the_Greenlanders
"Erik sets sail from near Snæfellsjökull and reaches the coast of a
glacial land. He travels south along the coast searching for a
habitable area. After two years of exploring the country, he returns
to Iceland and tells of his discoveries. He names the land which he
had explored Greenland (ON: GrÅnland) because he said people would be
attracted to go there if the land had a good name."
Have a nice day basking in the accuracy of my claims.
