UDA ceasefire? What shaggin' UDA ceasefire?
Baby targeted in UDA gun attack

A couple and their baby have been targeted in a gun attack on their
Carrickfergus home.

The family were asleep when three shots were fired through a window of their
house at Drumhoy Drive, in Sunnylands estate. No-one was injured.

Wednesday night's attack is being linked to a feud between the mainstream Ulster
Defence Association and a breakaway faction in south-east Antrim.

Mayor David Hilditch said police were carrying out searches in the area.

"Fortunately no-one has been hurt here tonight. It could have been very much
different.

"It is of grave concern that this incident which we would be linking to the
loyalist feud in Carrickfergus, the UDA feud, that someone hasn't been seriously
hurt tonight."

Intimidation

He said there had been an "ongoing situation" since a policeman was shot in the
nearby Castlemara estate in July.

"We have had a catalogue of incidents ranging from low-level intimidation to
shootings and pipe bombings throughout that three-month period. We are getting
sick of it here in Carrickfergus," he said.

In August, Social Development Minister Margaret Ritchie gave the UDA 60 days to
begin decommissioning or she threatened to stop funding for a loyalist
initiative.

That deadline passed on Tuesday night.

What's the betting the UDA will still get the money?

It's difficult for an organisation to stamp out criminality within
it's membership, especially when the criminals establish their own
organisation.

The CIRA have nothing to do with the PIRA and the PIRA have stayed to their
word.. What is it now nearly 10 years since the ceasefires? And the UDA are
STILL practicing terrorism?

I understand there is a bit of split within that movement but still...

Every Revolutionary group is made up of at least 2 types... The actual
idealists who believe in the Cause... Who believe in it heart and soul... And
the thugs and morons element... who join so they can feel strong and exploit
their position for their own self advancement... Luckily, with the Provos...
The *majority* were patriots and idealists and the minority are the thugs...
These thugs have no support... WE recognize them for the thugs they are....

I was delighted to see the UDA leadership a while back distance itself from
criminality... and called on people to report morons using the UDA to extort
and what have you... Seemingly it's causing a feud now...

But it's 2007 now... nearly 2008... There is NO reason whatsoever for the
existance of ANY Loyalist "defense" group...

The Government of GB should not reward them... From here... It looks like a pay
off for "services rendered"...

Robert McCartney ? No convictions yet. The Sisters are having to move
out of Ireland. I think the tugs done quite well on that one -
considering the hassle it has cause to sf/ira. From here it looks like
the knifeman was well connected,

The uda should have distanced itself from criminals instead of trying
to police the criminals and criminality within it's own membership.
Keeping a cease fire would be difficult enough, but keeping a bunch of
gun toting dissidents in line without shooting anyone must be real
hard to do.

It will be a good while before loyalists feel that they don't need
defending, at the moment they are either too embarrassed to give up
their tiny amount arms, too paranoid or they haven't been told to yet
because those arms in circulation might just get rid of a few bad
apples.........your guess is as good as mine.

The money will be missed by those who would have gained honest benefit
from it.

IRA - complete decommissioning... No Provo ASU working...

You got evidence to the contrary?

Isolated incident... The IRA leadership etc... etc... You know what I'm going
to type at this stage... But it still holds...

True...

I think the UDA are on the right path... only the morons and gun toting wankers
are holding them back...

It's time... either way... Anyone still clinging to guns are scum and
hooligans who expolited the UDA (as some scum exploited the IRA) for thier own
ends and have no more interest in peace in NI then they have in finding life on
Mars! :(

Wasn't the theat to the UDA that the money would be spread amongst Loyalist
communities to help the homeless and those in need...

A much better option then paying off Loyalist terrorists a pension for "services
rendered" if you ask me...

It's pretty simple in Northern Ireland really - "Ceasefire" and "Loyalists"
never go well in the same sentence.
