Film on Cuban Five Screened in Ukraine

Havana, Nov 22(acn) Students from the Spanish Faculty of the Foreign 
Languages University in Ukraine have been familiarized with the 
injustices committed against five Cuban antiterrorist fighters unjustly 
held in US prisons.

The university students, who are also members of committees in 
solidarity with the island, attended the screening of a film on the 
unjust judicial procedures committed against Antonio Guerrero, Ramon 
Labaino, Fernando Gonzalez, Gerardo Hernandez and Rene Gonzalez, 
internationally known as the Cuban Five.

The Five were detained in 1998 for infiltrating right-wing Cuban 
American organizations in southern Florida to prevent terrorist 
activities against the Cuban and American people. The men were charged 
with espionage and punished with extremely harsh sentences despite the 
antiterrorist nature of their mission.

Manuel Lopez, the national coordinator of the 15 Ukrainian committees 
in solidarity with the Five, highlighted the importance of the 
international campaign undertaken since October this year to demand the 
immediate release of the Cuban Five.

After the screening of the film, a graduate from that University, 
Valeria Balabaeva, launched her translation of a book of poems written 
by Antonio Guerrero.
