U.S. warns British against leaving Iraq
The Associated Press
LONDON: The top U.S. commander in Iraq, General David Petraeus, briefed
British officials on the course of the war Tuesday, praising Britain's
plan to give Iraqi security forces control in Basra but warning against
leaving the country too soon.
Petraeus and the American ambassador to Iraq, Ryan Crocker, came to
Britain to set out their vision for the continued U.S. troop presence
in Iraq to the prime minister, Gordon Brown. Their visit came amid
concerns that a British withdrawal from the south of the country could
leave U.S. forces and a major supply route at greater risk of attack.
"There are no easy answers or quick solutions to helping the Iraqis
build sustainable security and achieve national reconciliation,"
Petraeus said.
"Our assessments underscore the importance of recognizing that a
premature drawdown of our forces would likely have devastating
consequences not only for Iraq and the region, but for our nations and
the world."
Speaking before a meeting with Brown, Petraeus constantly praised
British forces serving in Iraq, repeating his assessment of stability
in Iraq since the "surge" of American forces.
He also offered support for Britain's plan to give Iraqi security
forces control of Basra Province later this year or early next year.
Britain, the United States' chief ally in the war in Iraq, has begun a
transition to an "overwatch" stance in Iraq, a reference to a process
begun under the former prime minister, Tony Blair, for turning over
control to Iraqis of the areas where British troops are in charge.
British troops in southern Iraq have made the handover in three of the
four provinces where they held security responsibility, and there is
speculation that Brown could go further, responding to antiwar
sentiment in Britain by pulling troops more rapidly out of an unpopular
war, although the British government has given no timetable for
withdrawal.
British commanders, including the chief of the army, General Richard
Dannatt, have expressed a preference for an early withdrawal from Iraq,
saying that Britain's armed forces are overstretched, with heavy
presences in both Iraq and Afghanistan.
Two weeks ago, British commanders pulled back the last of their troops
from the center of Basra, concentrating the 5,500 remaining British
troops in Iraq at the Basra Air Station, northwest of the city.
The step was part of a plan laid out by Blair in February, when Britain
had 7,100 troops in the country; 1,600 troops were withdrawn over the
summer.
Despite "challenges and setbacks," Petraeus said, "Iraqis have
generally been able to deal with the challenges with minimal
assistance, although help has been provided on occasion."
Brown will outline his plans for British troops in a speech to
Parliament next month.
In testimony to Congress last week, Crocker and Petraeus made clear
that the Bush administration's overall strategy in Iraq would remain
largely unchanged after the scheduled end next summer of the temporary
increase in American forces. And they made clear their view that the
United States would need a major troop presence in Iraq for years to
come.
According to British media reports, British commanders would like to
reduce their presence in Iraq further around November or December, the
time of the next scheduled rotation of British combat units there.
Crocker and Petraeus were expected to tell British leaders that, even
if the main body of British combat troops were withdrawn, they want
Britain to maintain a headquarters in Basra Province and keep up the
fairly strong intelligence network that Britain has built up in the
south over the past four years.
In addition, they reportedly want Britain to station a unit of perhaps
350 troops in the border area east of Amarah, northeast of Basra, to
inhibit the infiltration of Iranian agents and weapons.
One British newspaper, The Daily Telegraph, citing unidentified British
commanders in Iraq, described a plan that has been floated for 2,500
troops, or about half the remaining British troops, to relocate to
Kuwait, less than an hour's drive south of Basra.
>From there they could continue to train Iraqi troops and to protect
convoys on the main supply route north from Kuwait to Baghdad, a job
they have handled since the early days of the war and that U.S. leaders
say remains vital.
There has been some sharp criticism in the United States of the British
draw-down of forces, both from Bush administration and military
figures, who say the British forces are leaving the field at a critical
moment, just as the United States has increased its combat forces in a
push for greater security and political stability.
But some American commanders in Iraq have taken a more realistic view,
saying that, with the ascent to prime minister of Brown, who is known
to be much less enthusiastic about the war than Blair was, and with
British public opinion overwhelmingly opposed to the war, a drawdown of
British forces is inevitable.

The Metropolitan Police & ECHG, English Churches Housing Group 243 The Riverside Group
The Homophobic Hate campaign by English Churches Housing Group (ECHG),
Hammersmith & Fulham Council and The Metropolitan Police is still
continuing - at the moment my tormentors think it is acceptable to run
a Hate campaign and they do not think they have done anything wrong.
The authorities know who I am, but they think it is acceptable for a
group of people to run a homophobic hate campaign.
The merger has taken place between ECHG and The Riverside Group - but
I am still dealing with a group of people who enjoy making my life a
living nightmare.
My Tormentors take an enormous pleasure in making my life a living
hell - my Tormentors see me as a soft target. I am not scared of them
nor am I afraid of them - I will get a full criminal investigation
into this hate campaign - on my terms and I will not shut-up until I
get to the bottom of everything these criminals have done - I mean
everything and in the process I will clear my name which my Tormentors
have elegantly blackened.
When the whole truth comes out of what has happened - you will find
that I am a Law-abiding citizen and a veteran of the Falklands
Campaign.
My Tormentors have no intention in sorting out this mess, as at the
moment they are enjoying running their hate campaign too much - this
is all about 100% hate, nothing else.
As part of the Hate campaign my tormentors have bugged my computer - I
do know what I am talking about - you can check my computer
qualifications with Microsoft.

My computer is not connected to the Internet and I don not have a

tormentors have done, it to use a wireless connection to bug my
computer.

This all started when I found out this development should be to be a
Hostel for people with special need, I made a official complaint to
the Independent Housing Ombudsman and the Local Government Ombudsman -
which lead to a legal agreement that ECHG should move me and carry
several repairs on my flat - which ECHG had no intention of honouring
this agreement. ECHG and the Council decided to lie to both the
Independent Housing Ombudsman and the Local Government Ombudsman for
this to succeed they needed to have to the police to confirm their
lies. Instead of sorting out this mess, when I found out about what
they have been doing - my tormentors decided to run a hate campaign
against me.

people know I do not have a voice - they know how the system works and
have got lying to a fine art.
