Well, if you expect it to be any good, you really, really need your head
looking at. After all, it's got Shane "Bloody" Ritchie as the distant
relative of Arthur Daley, and some bloke I've never heard of playing the
role of whatever Terry did.
I read in the paper that they'll be keeping the original theme music. this
is clearly a mistake. At least when they brought in "Raymond", they
rejigged the theme music. OK, it was awful (lie: I actually quite liked the
rejig), but at least it was different.
This is why I no longer watch television in any great way. It's because the
channels have no originality to them any more. Take early morning BBC1. How
many property development / sell your stuff programmes can they fit in such
a small space of time? And this is BBC FFS. They have the biggest budget
out of the lot of them.
Channel 5 have never, EVER commissioned good television (with the exception
of "Whittle", and that program with the guy off "Time Gentlemen Please" in
it (not Al Murray (oooh, bracket nesting))), and I have no reason to think
that this version of Minder will be any different.
Back to the theme tune. You have to look at it and ask why they're keeping
the original theme tune? Is it because they want to associate the
abomination of a show they've created, with the rose-tinted specs of early
80s england, and the irreplacable charm and good humour that George Cole
delivered to an ultimately warm and loving character? Or is it because they
simply "can't be arsed".
Nothing remade in this way is ever as good as the original. Give it 10
years. Will people still be talking about George Cole, or Shane Ritchie?

Yes, that's the one. Couldn't remember the name of the programme. Though I
do remember that the presenter was called Steven "Jason "Steven Crosbie"
Freeman " Crosbie".
As in, his real name was Steven Crosbie, stage name is Jason Freeman, and
his character name in TGP was Steven Crosbie.
I think.
