FAO Simon Pegg III
Well, even with all the politics and accusations surrounding google's
"filtering" of any, indeed all, information in order to create
bespoke, targetted, advertising it has to be said that being a
subscriber is a bit like working for the Financial Times editorial
department in that pretty much any post can be pulled at, well, no
notice at all.

So why am I bothering? Well, I saw Resident Evil and its follow-up the
other night. Yes, I agree, any of the zombies could've jumped a plane
by hiding amongst the undercarriage as unlike real people they'd
survive.

Still it's better than traipsing around the tv groups complaining that
police procedurals are, well, somewhat formulaic.

But it really did underline to me that, whatever you'd heard, if it
was anything like the tripe that various people have come to me
throwing in my face I can assure you it was 90% rubbish, so far as I'm
concerned anyway, and the other 10% was subject to serious
exaggeration.

Which isn't a million miles away from the preposterous claims you made
concerning the radical nature of "Shaun of the Dead" on the Richard &
Judy show which I caught one afternoon whilst I was vaccilating. Not
in the light of its obvious influences anyway. I know your friends,
you said, pussyfoot around your ego and insecurities; it's another
reason you wouldn't like me.

But to come back with a bit of qualitative feedback on your portrayal
of contemporary England, I've been subject to the old line myself
about how the black man never gets a fair go. I actually didn't think
that much of it past "yeah yeah" until I realised that the very same
activities the local African and Carribean communities here are trying
to get away from the stereotype of being the stairway to success--
violence, bribery, corruption, extortion, frame-ups, &c., the local
gay community seems to be promoting as a veritable role model.

Now, if a black guy went around driving into people, threatening and
bullying, coercing, and buying silence and a blind eye off The Police
(except for when they have to be seen to be treating everybody
equally) whilst making lots of money from commercial class A substance
importing, well, it'd hardly qualify him for a soap box in the local
paper to write each week.

But that's your sector, and neatly illustrates why it's not one I ever
had any real interest in, nor am ever likely to have.

People quite obviously like what you produce. I genuinely don't like
that many people. Make sure you feature in the trailers and you're
guaranteed I won't watch to be offended. Continued success and, by the
way, don't bother wasting my time professing your sympathy or pathos
again. It's neither useful nor welcome.

I gather the FT line could also work in terms of a being VIP at
Stringfellows/the Raymond Revue Bar, I just couldn't be bothered
making it work. And, let's face it, there's no way I could've nicked
that idea off of you, so I suggest you stick yours where the moon
don't shine and remember I really can do them off the cuff, I just
prefer the disciplines that go with cataloguing and archiving and
suchlike. It's a mastery to me.

Yeah, I have capability to upload sounds now, so you'll get that
composition sometime. I'm still casting about for suitable metaphors
that will finally put your mind at rest that not only would you really
not like me, but any pity you felt compelled to express would be
thrown back in your face rather like a broken (but empty) glass, say,
or a lit firework.

Best of luck.
