Broken Britain Event
Hi,

Some of you might want to pop over to the Bishopsgate Institute
debate, ‘Broken Britain’: Can we fix it?, taking place on Thursday
(30th April) at 7.30pm.

'"Broken Britain": can we fix it?' critically examines the perception
that we live in a ‘broken society’ and the proposed attempts to
rectify it. When some politicians suggest that we "go to war" on anti-
social youngsters, who’s side are you on? Is Britain really being
broken by a feckless underclass, or is they a scapegoat for the lack
of cohesion in society as a whole? How do we repair our atomised
society?

The line-up of speakers is as follows:

Eamonn Butler, director, Adam Smith Institute; author, The Rotten
State of Britain (Gibson Square, 2009)

Alastair Donald, urban designer, researcher and writer; co-editor, The
Future of Community: Reports of a Death Greatly Exaggerated (Pluto
Press, 2008)

Yvonne Roberts, senior associate, The Young Foundation

Steve Wyler, Director of the Development Trusts Association

Chair: Austin Williams, director, Future Cities Project

All previous Institute of Ideas debates at Bishopsgate have sold out
