YHA Chief Executive Resignation
Breaking News from the YHA website
http://www.yha.org.uk/about-yha/yha-news/Chief_Executive_Resignation.aspx

<Roger Clarke has tendered his resignation from the post of Chief
Executive of YHA (England & Wales) with effect from the 31st March
2008.

At its meeting on the 17th November 2007 the Board of Trustees
accepted Roger's resignation and expressed gratitude to Roger for his
commitment and achievements on behalf of YHA during the eight years he
has been Chief Executive.

"The Board noted in particular that Roger has raised the public
profile of YHA, has been a major force in YHA's work in Europe and
internationally, and has made a big contribution to creating a YHA
true to its charitable mission and able to meet the challenges of the
21st Century," said YHA Chairman, Chris Darmon.

"The board extended its best wishes to Roger for the future, including
in his role as a member of the board of Natural England."

"In the past two years YHA's strategy has been renewed," said Roger
Clarke. "With the overall direction of the change programme now
clear, this is the right time for a new CEO to carry forward the
work."

The Board reaffirmed its intention to press ahead with the
implementation of the strategy and change programme agreed last year.

Trustees expressed their appreciation of the continuing support and
commitment of staff throughout the organisation at a time of change.

Steps will be taken immediately to recruit a new CEO.

"I know that all staff will work with Roger and the Board over the
coming months to continue our good work and plan for the future,"
Chris Darmon said.

I'm not sure what to say right now, but I can assure you I'm not
likely to be applying for any CEO jobs - not just yet anyway. I'm
*very* new to the the world of YHA and the Board of Trustees, so I'm
still learning - but I can forecast wind spped and direction better
than most.

I'm not really prepared to make any serious public comment here, but
you can catch up with me via my new online YHA diary at:
http://www.yha.org.uk/about-yha/governance/diary_of_a_trustee/index.aspx

Regards,

Karl.
