Weekend of Muppetry
Ah the Llangollen in (nearly) summer !
This weekend:-
Several waterskiers and dangerous steerers, those late in the day on
Saturday fuelled by booze after watching the FA cup in the pub all
afternoon.
Two people standing on the offside gunwhales of a hireboat whilst
crossing Pontcysyllte Aqueduct. Would they stand 126 ft up on a window
ledge ? doubt it, but yet they'll stand on a wet piece of metal a few
inches wide 126 ft up ! Do these people leave their brains behind in
the glovebox of the car ? So for the record it was Viking Afloat boat
"Ingermar" with a party of what looked like public schoolboys on board.
The same VA boat then turned at Trevor for Llangollen, then half an
hour later reversed back through the bridge hole and went back over the
aqueduct (this time not on the gunwhales, after being told of their
stupidity). How far had they reversed along a narrow, busy section of
cut ? who knows but they must have been nearly at the Bryn Howel
winding hole !
Private boats moored in a busy winding hole used by full length trip
boats, expect hire boats to do it, but surely privates should know
better.
Hire/timeshare boat passing a line of moored boats at 6.25 this
morning, on full throttle, then moored up beyond the last boat and
continued to run it's engine before moving off half an hour later.
Is it me ? is it a reflection of society in general that people seem
to be becoming far less considerate to other canal users ?
Oh well, I don't suppose we'll solve it here, but a whinge helps
anyway.
