Can I attach a microphone to this Samsung Sports Camcorder? (model:
VP-X220L)
Hi
I have acquired a Samsung Sports Camcorder (model: VP-X220L)
and need to attach an external microphone to it.
Unfortunately it is a model which is 2 or 3 years old now but it was
'top-of-the-range' at the time - (it even has 2GB of internal memory!)
Samsung's website don't mention any accessories at all for it now.
But it has an external camera thing which appears to have a microphone
built in to it. The jack for the external camera has FOUR contacts,
rather than the usual 2 or 3 contacts (see attached photo.).
http://www.traighgolf.co.uk/t1/camco...ung_camera.jpg
I have tried using a two different conventional microphones (one with
3 contacts, one with 2 contacts - rather than the 4 that this has) but
it there was no sound.
I can not afford to buy a new camcorder from scratch.
Is there any conceivable way of attaching an external microphone?
Any suggestions?

I believe the plug in the picture is the A/V output plug.

Surely it cant just output because it taking input from the External
Camera (which also contains at microphone).

So if we know for sure that this is an input that accepts audio
(and how did we arrive at authoritative information?) then
exactly what was the meaning of the original question?

My Guess it that the jack is the AV input from/For the external head camera. Like the AV outputs It will be common return Composite Video and audio left and right. But then you never know. And there are at least two ways of wiring those outputs. Best you can do is get a TV/Audio connection lead with three phonos and try each phono in turn.

No, because there is NO evidence supporting the notion that
that camera has a microphone input jack. The connector shown
in the photo appears to be either an AV input and/or output.
It seems extremely doubtful that you have a mic input jack on
that camcorder. If you have tried plugging various mics into
that jack while recording and heard nothing recorded then
you seem to have proved conclusively that there is no mic
input provided on that model.
Perhaps the best you can do is to "hack" the camera and
gouge out the internal mic(s?) and replace them with a jack.
NOT recommended for any but an experienced technician.
