avi dvd
Is there any reason why I can't simply copy an avi file to a DVD as a data
copy? (Just to back it up). For some reason it tells me it can't be done but
I don't know whether it's my DVD writer that's playing up or not

I think your DVD writer may be playing up.

Are you sure that you are setting your writing software to DATA and not
DVD-VIDEO?

You can on a data DVD. What SW do you use? Who tells you that it can't be
done? What's the error message?
