Visiting LU stations
Does anyone know if LU have changed their policy on visits as in the
latest edition of Sub Brit's Subterranea there is a report of a day on
the Underground where a large group (22) visited a number of stations
including disused passages. This also highlights another problem in
some of the photos they are track side with no physical barrier did
the party have the right certification? occurred during the day so was
it during a closure I thought people still need certification any
thoughts

No, LU haven't changed their policy towards visits to closed stations
but occasionally exceptions can be made as on this and a subsequent
occasion. All the sites visited were authorised and the SB members
were guided by LU staff at all times. At no time were any members
trackside apart from a disused section of track at Euston. Any others
pictures that might appear to be trackside were not - I am the
photographer of all the new pictures that appeared in the magazine so
I should know.
This visit was advertised on our members only e-mail group.

Not being a subbrit member, I got emails direct from Phil Lindhurst.
There were a lot of other urbexers there, who used to frequent 28DL.
On one trip Banksy the street artist turned up, so they were well
known about. I'd agree that everyone was well escorted.

Nick,
My post was has the policy changed you say no the visit was unofficial
they do not do local arrangements all controlled from 55 Broadway and
then there is the photos did you have a permit? again controlled from
55 Broadway and then the day of the visit trains were running you say
the only track side were disused well the shot at Euston is a live
section so again you are wrong but it does not matter you still need
to have protection arranged drivers need to be advised that there are
persons at the stations City Rd and South Kentish Town. The day in
question staff levels are reduced so was there enough escorts when
these were required who paid the overtime for them.

Strewth - has it not got a bit silly and over the top?
I had a couple of visits to LU back in the 90's arranged by an architect who
worked for LU.
We had a marvellous tour, including a couple of disused stations & service
tunnels and ended up with a ride in the cab. All on the OK of the local
SM's.
Will this country ever revert to a degree of common sense?
