and to completely confuse things the reason for the changing of the
name from Sellafield to Windscale in the first place was to avoid any
possibility of confusion with one of their other sites, Springfield
where the fuel rods were manufactured.

They live in Springfield and Homer works at the Nuclear power station.

Sorry to be a pedantic **** but its Springfields, not Springfield. Preston 
was going to declare itself a Nuclear Free Zone in the 1980's until someone 
reminded them about the existence of this place, about 2 miles from the 
county bunker in Lea.

Yes it is, my mistake.  But as shown above it has much greater comic
impact without the trailing S :)

What is comedy is the 80's thing about declaring places nuclear free 
zones . So they'll not be wanted any of that electricity then? plus if 
the bomb drops it'll respect the county boundaries too!

The only thing missing would be to solemnize the arrangement 
by drawing up an arms limitation treaty.
