activity on cb and ham
All,

This is a serious posting and not a troll, as I wonder if either is
worth it - seriously. If it is, I'll get some new gear.

If I drove from (say) London To Leeds (A1 or M1) - as I do regularly,
how many QSOs would I be likely be able to have on:
1. 2m ham (simplex or repeater)
2. 70cm ham
3. Other VHF/UHF ham
4. CB

Or put differently, what % of the time would I likely be able to keep
myself amused with this sort of thing.
Have all the truckers lost interest in CB ?

Tnx

I've tootled around a bit in my old army truck with the CB on scan
mode, and it rarely picks up a thing, that's on UK40. On the other
hand, when I go off-roading, like on a trip to Wales recently, it's
worth its weight in gold, so probably best get it if you have a need
to communicate with a group of other CBers, but around my area (Dorset
and A303 corridor) there's not much other use other than the
occasional farmers. Sometimes you get people with fat amps sitting on
hills talking to each other about their CB, not much fun in that though.

With the introduction of Echolink and IRLP there are numerous Repeater and
Simplex links to use all over the UK, you are more likely to find someone to
talk to on teh Amateur Bands I would think. Whether you wanted to of course
is another issue.
