BN Membership
Just a quick question, being fairly new to this and never being a member of
BN, where the hell dose all the money go ?

What do you get for £44 a year ?

Other that a quarterly mag (which should be paid for by the advertising) and
a members area on the web site......

Just as well join the Tax Avoidance Society (Sorry, The National Trust) at
least you get some thing back for your money.

I joined initially for the membership cards. There are places abroad which
insist on a card to get in and I simply prefer to go on hols knowing I've
got everything I need before I go.

Having said that, I didn't realise it was £44 pa. I haven't looked at the
cost for years, perhaps I'll reappraise it at renewal time.

One of the things you're paying for currently if you are a BN members is to
send BN Chairman elect, Michael Farrar to the INF Conference in Brazil for a
week+. There he will hear from such august speakers as Mick Ayers, as to how
world naturism should be 'run'. (Believe it or not Mick Ayers is still on
the Council of the INF, even though he is no longer even a member of his own
national naturist organisation). BN subscribes about £13,000 a year towards
the running costs of the INF to obtain such benefits.
When Mick Ayers ceased to be BN's international officer, amid 'the Mick
Ayers thing' (see other threads), BN had no obvious candidate to send to the
INF conference. At a time of budget cuts I persuaded them not to send
anyone, to save money, as we could have the transcripts of all the speeches
for free anyway. At the next EC meeting they performed one of their famous U
turns, and hey presto!, suddenly Michael Farrar, by now only candidate for
Chairman, was suddenly gagging to be sent on expenses to Brazil. And guess
what? The EC voted (not unanimously!) to send him. What a surprise !
So yes, there are many benefits to being a member of BN, (depending on who
you are, and who your mates are).
Toujours ca change.........

How about answering the direct question asked of you, seeing that you
have investigated these loans to MA, what were these loans for. Lets
make it simple for you, were these loans for CCBN business or personal
use?

I'm not sure how much simpler it could be, considering that your
question was answered before you asked it?

"The loans were all ostensibly for the purchase of computers (or in
Steve Thompson's case camera equipment)."

Have considered membership myself (especially after Holkham funday '05 on
wife's suggestion), but the fact that my wife isn't into Naturism and only
kept me company for the day to see for herself and 3 years on is only just
warming to it, I haven't joined yet?!?!

I wouldn't be able to make use of its' holiday facilites or INF card
benefits, so it would be £44/year for 4 magazines, which although well
published doesn't justify the expense. I am considering a subscription to
Naturist Life published by Suzanne at Shabden Leisure - as I recall its
£21/year for bi-monthly magazine (6 a year) - and having read an issue at
Elixir found it more than comparable with the BN magazine, and that combined
with URN and other NG's satisfies my interest and knowledge requirements.

Virtually no one actually needs an INF card nowadays. I've not been asked
for one for a quarter of a century now, with trips to European naturist
places most years. In that time only 1 place in the UK has asked me for a BN
card even!

ONCE AGAIN, they were all loans of money so that the officers could
personally own equipment (computers & cameras). The use of the equipment is
not known, but it was all personally owned by those borrowing the money. In
Ayers' case less than half was spent on a laptop, and he won't say what the
other half went on.
Now do you understand? ( Is this what you get with Care in the Community?)

Care to give the message ref numbers for were you have previously
'itemised' the use of the loans, rather than just vague suggestions
and accusations?

Perhaps you'd better ask the people who authorised and received these loans
exactly what they were for. They, after all, should be the people who should
be accountable for them and would know the sort of level of detail that you
appear to be demanding.

No, Duncan is the one making the accusations, it is for him to either
'put up or shut up', if you are correct though perhaps someone should
ask you if you have stopped beating your wife yet?...

Having visited Euronat, Grande Cosse, Cap Natur and Cap d'Agde I have
never been asked for an INF card - although looking at Montalivet
www.chm-montalivet.com it seems you might need one

It is unlikely you'd be turned away for the lack of one, even if you're
asked for one in practice which is rare. they'll happily sell you one on the
spot. That's how much an INF card actually means!
