Who's attacked our Shaggy Inkcap?

Yesterday morning I went into my garden and found a beautiful new Shaggy 
Ink Cap fungus. When I looked at the other side, it had been stripped as 
shown in the photo above.

Part of the cap exterior is missing, and part lies on the ground. There 
may be an 'entry mark' on the upper left of the cap.

What is the likely culprit?
We're in Rochdale, England.
