Bats and adders
Just come back from a batbox check on the slopes of the Malvern Hills
(Worcestershire). In a total of 120 boxs we found eight pipistrelles plus
three leisler's that weren't there last time we checked back in December
(total of 13 pips back then) - all dozy but active. Lucky enough to extract
one of the leisler's myself for examination! Pictures are OK but actually
to have one in the hand is something else!

Been a good week so far - found a large (2ft or so) female adder on our
local nature reserve on Sunday. During a guided walk as well, so the timing
couldn't have been better. First adder we've ever seen in the area so it's
an important record. There's a picture of her on my webspace at
www.thespis.eclipse.co.uk/pictures/adder.jpg
