Open letter "Members Only ..... True picture of our work at rail society"
WalesOnline

South Wales Echo

9th september 2008

"I am the chairman of the Cardiff Model Engineering Society in Heath
Park.

I would like to introduce some accuracy into the debate over our
activities as described by Councillor Page and Mr Britton who have
recently had letters published in the Echo.

The article Coun Page is referring to was an independent report
written by Gary Summerhayes for the Echo. Mr Summerhayes reflects,
with accuracy, the views of the majority of visitors that make use of
our amenity.

Members of the public often visit the railway site and are made more
than welcome and given a site tour. Coun Page knows this perfectly
well as he been on site and had many a chat with myself and other
members. "

...and it's relevance to this group is what exactly, considering that
news:uk.rec.models.engineering would be a far more 'on-topic'
group?...

Clue, many model engineers will be insulted if you were to call them
'railway modellers'!

But 'Jerry' out of Tom & Jerry (cat & mouse) is funny. Unless you are
referring to the Tom & Jerry from The Van Beuren Studio's back in the
early 30's

Like you neither Tom nor Jerry (renamed Dick and Larry) had a whole
lot of personality !

Your unemployed .... I wonder why ?

If you ever do attend Hyde Park and 'speakers corner' please let me
know as I have some rotten eggs & fruit I need to dispose of !

Please keep posting as they remind me there is something less
intelligent than the slugs at the bottom of my garden :-)

Have a nice day !

It all sounds so horribly farmiliar! One of the best off-road sites,
near Chesterfield, had problems with staging events due to the
percieved presence of some newt or flower or something. Proposals
were put forward to "manage" the site, and an "action plan" was
put forward to "maintain the environment" etc etc - all at cost
to you, dear tax payer, of course. Those causing the problem
simply couldn't get it through thick heads that the reason the
newts/plants were there was simply *because* it is an off-road
site - no "management" required! I believe this was resolved
by the farmer insisting on site checks to find the newts/plants,
and also insisting the he, or a representative, be in attendence
during such vistits. I'll leave you to speculate why he did this,
but no newts/plants were found, and the facility is still used by
many thousands of happy people, rather than being fenced off.

Cheers
Richard

Do they still have that large 2nd hand motorbike bits shop in Stoke-on-
Trent Richard ?

Wales Online South Wales Echo

19th September 2008

" ......... However she stated that it is currently run by a group
of fairly elderly gentlemen. She implied that because of this, and
the stress involved, it would never be likely to open more than a few
times a year.

In this case, why do they want an extension at all ? ........ "

http://www.walesonline.co.uk:80/news/letters-to-the-editor/south-wales-echo-letters/2008/09/19/not-aware-of-wider-issues-91466-21855150/

Is that an agist comment or what ? Perhaps these "fairly elderly
gentlemen" do this to relieve stress.

If this Mr Nick Jones of Allensbank Road, Heath, Cardiff would like
to put his house on the market our son would LOVE to move there and
support the development.
