UK equivalent for Bondo ?
Hi,
I keep reading about a kind of filler called Bondo which people in the colonies
use for filling and finishing model planes. I've not ever seen this in the UK
and I wondered if anyone here knows exactly what it is and where I can get a UK
equivalent ?
Thanks,
Boo

Lightweight polyfilla is what I use..its hard to come by, but it is very
soft - softer than balsa. Sometiemns sold as 'no sand' filler.

Re: UK equivalent for Bondo ?
Hi TNP and Alan, thanks for your replies.
I am really looking for something a bit stronger than Pollyfilla as it will be a
bit frangible at the edges. I understood Bondo to be either epoxy or polyester
resin based, is the Deluxe model lite made of resin or something else ?
Thanks again,
Boo

Re: UK equivalent for Bondo ?
Hi -- Might be hard to locate, but there is a product made by Poly Fiber
called "SuperFil". It is intended for the homebuilt aircraft crowd, but
works great for our models. It is a two-part epoxy compound that is very
light weight and SANDS WONDERFULLY -- to a feather edge on 'glass, metal, or
even balsa. Weighs 3.6 pounds/gallon. Here in the Colonies it's available
from http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/cmpages/superfil.php but if you
can locate an outfit that supplies aircraft finishing supplies, I'm sure
they can get it for you.

Thanks for the post Lyman, I have found DuperFil in the UK at
rocketstore.co.uk. It's not cheap but the easy sanding sounds very useful as
that's always a pita with any of the harder fillers IME.
Can you say whether it is any good to use on Polyester resin based fibreglass as
well as epoxy based fiberglassw ? I read that only polyester resin will bond
properly to cured polyester laminates and I have both a polyester and an epoxy
based fuselage to fill.

I'm afraid I can't answer that question -- why not send the company an
E-mail? Then post the answer you get.

Hi Lyman,
I took your advice and got a speedy reply from polyfiber.com. The question and
their reply is appended below :
