Gone Phishing!!!!
Hi
I thought I would pass on a word of warning to the NG.
Back in April I bought some RC equipment online from a reputable model
shop here in the UK - to avoid possible legal action I won't give the
name of the shop; all I will say is that it is in the Midlands and
specialises in Helicopters!!! 8^)
It could well be a coincidence, but within a couple of weeks of the
above purchase the credit card details I gave for the transaction had
been fraudulently used for gambling purposes (I hadn't used that card
for some time prior to buying the RC items - and the gambling fraud
took place in the Midlands), and recently I am being bombarded with
phishing e-mails; "the security details for your online bank account
need updating at the following site. etc."
The reason I bring it to the attention of this NG is that I have a
series of "disposable" e-mail addresses which I use purely for online
purchases and the phishing e-mails are being sent to the e-mail
address I used on only 4 online sites - one of them being the above
model shop. Whilst the origin of the fake e-mails could of course be
from one of the other 3 online traders, I am slightly more inclined to
blame the above model shop because the credit card fraud occurred
shortly after ordering from the model shop and the details on my
credit card account showed that the fraud took place near where the
model shop is located; plus the e-mail address used for phishing is
the same as the one used for buying the RC items - admittedly it could
be a coincidence, but........
There have been no financial problems because I spotted the fraudulent
card use straight away, was reimbursed by the card company and my
account details changed, and I am certainly not stupid enough to fall
for a phishing e-mail. I always use a series of disposable e-mail
addresses for on line transactions and shall also of course delete
that particular disposable e-mail address and start using another -
it's no problem, that is what they are for.
Whilst I have no doubt the model shop is completely reputable and the
proprietor is absolutely honest, I suspect there is a chance that one
of his staff possibly may not be.
I would be interested to hear if anyone else has experienced similar
problems shortly after buying model goods online.
Regards

I've had similar experiences..strange e-mail turning up on accounts
reserved as yours was - for online trading.
Ive not yet been defaruded though.
IF you fill in a web form on an https server attached to someone secure
like worldpay etc, the card details never should GET to the shop.
The answer is, as you and I do, to keep a card account for net purchase,
keep an eye on it, and use disposable email addresses on a domain of
your choice.
