Camping table
I'm putting together a tabletop exhibit of Stuart Turner model steam
engines. I have a piece of wood that would make a useful table if I could
find some second hand folding legs. Is there anyone that has a fairly large
camping table that is falling to bits from which I could salvage the legs? I
don't mind paying something for them.

Obviously, I have looked on the Internet, but anything suitable is new &
hovering around £40!

I could collect at Enstone if convenient.

Regards,

Kim Siddorn

What size are you looking for.

Have a look in Lidl, your local one may have some folding trestle
sets left. They did in Carlisle this afternoon. Didn't look at the
price but I expect about £15.

Freecycle? Would have thought there are plenty of battered* old tables
available that you could tap into just by asking...

Sort of five - six feet & usual table height.

Re: Camping table
DIY stores now do a sturdy "pasting table" with "W" legs on. I think that
they are really designed for car booters!!

I have one of those from either Aldi or Lidl - about 35 quid, but far
more rigid than either of the traditional 4-legged tables (hardboard
or plywood top) and well worth it.

One thing to watch is the soft plastic used on the connectors,
particularly the two threaded joints that lock it. Cross-threading
these will knacker them - I've seen a couple abandoned at the end of
Castle Combe car boot for just this reason (I got to one of them, but
was beaten to the other!) I have A Cunning Plan to fix this,
involving some big aircraft-scrap Aeroquip hose connectors (blue & red
anodised), In My Copious Free Time.

They're also three-sections on the top, so longer than the usual car
boot table. Some car boot sales have been known to get stroppy about
them for making an oversize stall!

Look for a scrap caravan. They have folding tables. Many are free
standing. Enstone may have something. Failing all that, get some wood
and hinges or am I missing something?

Just another thought - how about an ironing board?

Re: Camping table
Thanks for the useful suggestions. Here's what happened in the end.

Today I went into "Go Outdoors" a local big camping shop, found two camping
tables with plastic tops & steel legs ( folding "X") at £11 each. Then to
B&Q to get some conduit clamps & now I have what I need for twenty two quid.

The timber is 1.50" x 2.5' x 6' teak (or Honduras Mahogany - can't be
certain with all the crud on it ) and was a science lab bench top in a
school built in the 1950's. Tomorrow - weather permitting - I'll belt sand
off the old varnish from my bit of wood, finish with an orbital, wire wool &
probably Danish Oil. I plan to fit two wooden bars with steel lips, glued &
screwed underneath & the inner part of the legs will fit under the lip, the
weight of the table top keeping it steady. The conduit clamps will of course
be screwed to the outer underside of the wood so they can be folded away.

The legs are quite sturdy, but I have it in mind to cross brace them at the
bottom.

Photos in due course, ST collection displayed!

Kim,

I have one of those plastic X leg tables in the boot of my Rover for tea
making duties, cross brace for certain as the legs pop if to much weight is
put on them.
