Crofton Pumping Station pics
OT? Well. it doesn't actually say "internal combustion" stationary engines
;o))

Yesterday, I took some of the family to Crofton Pumping Station on the Plain
near Marlborough. It wasn't a bad day for October, so there were few other
visitors & it wasn't a steaming day - next in steam on ABH.

It was interesting & I was greatly struck by the thought that the Boulton &
Watt engine was pumping water four years before Trafalgar & fourteen years
before Waterloo. The B&W is the oldest engine in the world still doing the
job it was designed to do.

There is a small gift shop & cafe & the staff are knowledgeable & friendly.
They have a stack of "Old Glory"s and similar for sale on donation, so if
you've got magazines to add to their pile, please take some along.

Sorry, meant to say ......

Note the pics of the vee twin pencil sharpener. A geared crank narrow angle
two stroke with a separate pumping cylinder. Obviously, if one could glue
five more to it, one would have a working model of a Rolls-Royce Crecy ;o))

Good grief! Can you use photobucket or something?

That site has the popups from Hell!

Hi Kim, I also have no problems but I think this is because we are
both paying members of Webshots.
Try clicking the sign out button and then viewing your pictures!
A lot of difference.

Not the best way to attract new members!

They don't do it for free, despite what they say, and they charge a fair whack
for advertisers as well.

Never used any of them, prefer to edit and host my pictures myself.

As you know, I'm not really a hot fog fan. But I have to say these large
stationary installations are pretty impressive and I was also rather
taken with the delightfully rustic Gardiner 'overcrank'.
