Visited this show on Saturday. The new locations is huge, flat and well
drained, and there are masses on the commercial side. There is an entire
field for stationary engines, and I think I counted 53 - but none like
my ST mains generator. Maybe I should bring it to a show with a lathe or
a milling machine for it to power. I am worried that visitors must get
the idea that all these engines are good for is a few light bulbs, or
floating a rubber duck. It might be an idea to make one do some work for
a change - I don;t think I have ever heard one working much over tickover.
There are a dozen or more steam traction engines, quite a selection of
scale model steamers, and a miscellany of tractors, buses, fire
equipment, military. old cars and old bikes with loads of room for more.
Normal parade ground in the middle with good PA.
The big deal was the ERF anniversary and apart from having the first ERF
diesel (1933) they have the last, and about a hundred inbetween (200 was
mentioned, so there may be more on Sunday). Under the bonnets this
probably amounts to the biggest Gardener engine assemblage in years.
This look like a substantial and growing show, and plenty of room for
stationary engines.
