Interesting stuff, having worked there twice, once in 1962-3 and again in 1971.
The guy in the white overalls in the publicity shot with the rock drill was
Norman, who was one of the engineers in the R&D shop, and the guy behind him in
the slanted cap was the works labourer whose name escapes me. They had a couple
of big chunks of rock outside the R&D shop to play with, and I was in one set of
publicity photographs as I was quite tall.
Les was the works lorry driver who had a nearly new Thames Trader to drive when
I was there in 62/63
Fred Collis ran the assembly shop, making all the stuff that they turned out,
rammers and pumps mostly, but vibrating pokers was a new product to me when I
rejoined for a few weeks in 1971, in between jobs.
Reg was the paint sprayer, I was in the R&D shop for the first year, then I left
and went to do my apprenticeship at Mullards.
Jack Hird and Wally Lambert I remember, but they were in the officers mostly.
Remember most of it quite clearly, although it was 46 years ago!

On a the off-chance, I range Fairport in Sheffield to see if I could pick up any
of the old contacts, and I found that the guy who wrote the article, Donald
Whiting was retired but still around. Donald was a year older than me, but
worked at the company until he retired, 46 years.
A quick call to him resulted in a very interesting chat, tied up with Warsop,
Ailsa Craig and other developments.
I have promised to drop him a letter with my own recollections of my time there,
and he has the bulk of the factory documentation which was going to be thrown
away, so there is the possibility of getting some factory service info for the
rammers and pumps.
Funnily enough, he remembers the fiasco with the Villers D270 diesel engine as
well as I do, and this is also documented in that pdf file that Andy put the
link for.
