Passively high?
Hi!

I am a non user and don't want to start. Basically my question is if
two friends are smoking cannabis in a room with me and all the windows
and door are closed can i get a little high from the passive smoke?

Cheers!

Highly (no pun intended) unlikely, in my opinion.

Most people that smoke cannabis for the first time report no, or little,
effect. It's usually only after a smoke or two that people feel any
anything. It's almost as if you have to become attuned to it before it
hits you.

People also find that, to a certain extent, the longer you smoke the less
you need to smoke get high. Novice smokers tend to smoke quite a bit more
than experienced smokers to get the same result.

Unless your friends are smoking /vast/ quantities (ounces rather than
grammes) in a /very/ small room (a phone booth, for example) it's
unlikely that, as a non-cannabis smoker, you'll notice any effect.

If they are smoking vast amounts in a very small room and you do get a
little bit high, however, you needn't worry about it. You'll not suddenly
turn into a slavering junkie mugging old ladies to maintain your supply.
Nor will you immediately become insane, to be locked up in an asylum for
the rest of your life. I make this point because your use of the word
'user' makes it sound as if you think of cannabis as being similar to
heroin or methamphetamine. People that smoke cannabis are no more
'cannabis users' than people that drink tea are 'tea users'. They're just
people that smoke cannabis.

Having said that, all smoke consists of tiny, jagged-edged particles that
are less than beneficial to your lungs. It's best to avoid any heavily
smoke-filled atmosphere if you can.

I read a story in a south african newspaper about train drivers
complaining that on late night journeys, passengers would smoke dagga
on the train, and blow the smoke through the keyhole into the driver's
cab - it was considered very funny by the passengers, but the drivers
didn't think it was so funny...

that's what they call it there. Pronounced "dacha", where the "ch" is
a guttural consonant - rather like the "ch" at the end of the word
"loch" as pronounced in scotland.
