Having it at all would be bad news, in my opinion. You're right about the
government seeking to have power over us but letting private enterprise
have the data would also be disastrous. It's only interested in filling
its coffers and people are nothing more than a source of income in its
eyes. Have you seen Noam Chomsky's "The Corporation"? If not, there's
quite a good precis of its main points here:

Agreed. Unfortunately he didn't stop to think past that one excellent
