Dress making
Hi,
I have started back to making my own clothes. I've altered the pattern so it
fits in all the right places, but, there's always a but lol when I move the
dress rides up. It is knitted cross-over with a basque between the top and
the skirt. Has anyone any ideas how to stop it riding up over the bust.
Many thanks in advance

Ann,
Probably due to not enough length of fabric in the upper section of the
dress. Try taking your query over to the newsgroup alt.sewing - it's by
far the most busy and most popular of the sewing newsgroups. A tad
American dominated, but they are most helpful, and there is an
international following on the group!

Re: Dress making thanks
Thank you Wanderer and Sarah. Sahah noe that sounds logical, I did have to
lengthen the top to make it fit my bust so maybe it needs a bit more added.

Ah! That could be it then especially with a clingy knit (which I think
you said you were using). Accommodating a real person's bust requires
you to add length and possibly width. I learnt this about accommodating
my rear end! I have to alter skirt & trouser patterns quite
significantly due to a 10" differential between waist and hips (yes, I
am lucky enough to be hour-glass when not pregnant). I got the width
right first try, but I was kind of uncomfortable in the delicate area!
It was one of the ladies on alt.sewing who told me I needed extra length
to accommodate the curves!

Re: Dress making
Sarah,
My dress is now a skirt lol the top looked awful so I just cut it off and am
putting elastic in the waist, I am NEVER using that slinky knit again,

Ann,
A good way to save your hard work! I'm sorry to hear your planned
project didn't work out, but at least the style you chose was convertible.
