ENGLISH SUMARY : Victorian trade cards, coated stock cards, chair
tickets – among which the very appreciated Liebig – are spotlighted in
this book. Its purpose has been to collect, illustrate and comment
numerous informations about those fleeting witnesses of the past,
before they fall into oblivion. Special attention is given to the
illustrators : 128 drawers who participated in the production of trade
cards are listed; trade brands and/or editors that called upon them
are indicated opposite their names. In each case, an example of
drawing is shown and, for most of them, a model of signature – or one
of the artist’s signatures. Collectors will also find listings of
trade cards catalogues, especially the precious WELD, acrostic
designating the authors : Wharton-Tigar Edward and Lucilla de
Magistris. 

FRANÇAIS : Chromos, cartes porcelaines, tickets de chaise – dont les
très estimés Liebig – sont mis en vedette dans cet ouvrage dont la
vocation a été de réunir, illustrer et commenter toute une série
d’informations sur ces fugaces témoins du passé avant qu’ils ne se
délitent et sombrent dans l’oubli. Les illustrateurs y occupent une
place de choix : 128 dessinateurs ayant participé à la réalisation de
chromos sont répertoriés avec, pour chacun, l’indication de marques
et/ou d’éditeurs qui ont fait appel à eux, ainsi qu’un exemple de
dessin et, pour la plupart, un modèle de signature – ou d’une des
signatures – de l’artiste. Les collectionneurs trouveront également
des listes de catalogues de chromos, notamment le précieux WELD,
acrostiche désignant les auteurs : Wharton-Tigar Edward et Lucilla de
