Harold, would it be more proper to refer to the two reverses as die states, 
rather than die varieties?  They appear to be the same die.  At least that's 
how U.S. copper collectors (I am one) view these differences.

You are correct in calling these differences on this coin as die states. 
Same die, but with a notable die crack.  But to various Jersey numismatic 
fanatics, this is a collectable variety.

In my documentation, I try to call these die differences simply as 
"varieties".  I will add a clarification -- somewhere on my site.

You can visit http://jerseycoins.com/misc/rrg.htm and take a look at the 
many different collectable varieties (various dies, die with various die 
cracks, dies with striations, etc.)
